Waffle-Assist (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension that adds a searchable Suite Bar, toolbar popup, right-click launcher, and optional new-tab home to supported Microsoft 365 pages. This policy explains what data is involved and how it is handled.
What the Extension does
Waffle-Assist injects a Suite Bar onto supported Microsoft 365 pages, can replace the stock waffle launcher with its own searchable launcher, can open a toolbar popup, and can add a Waffle Assist item to Chrome’s right-click menu (nested Pinned, Most used, and Admin Centers submenus, plus All apps and Options). It can also show a tenant-branded new-tab page. It reads the current site so it can match the bar’s colour to your tenant’s theme, and it keeps track of which apps you pin, add, and open so it can show your most-used apps automatically. Everything runs locally in your browser — there is no separate Waffle-Assist account or sign-in.
Data we collect
The Extension does not collect personal data on a remote server operated by Waffle-Assist. It does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs that transmit data to third parties.
In your browser, the Extension stores:
-
Your Suite Bar settings — pinned apps, custom apps you’ve added (name, URL, and
colour), Admin Centers visibility, SharePoint tenant prefix, which sites show the bar,
display mode, colour preferences, and new-tab banner/background settings — in the
extension’s local
chrome.storage. -
If you upload a banner image for the new-tab page, that image is stored locally in
chrome.storage.localso it can be rendered on your own device. - A cached display name for the optional new-tab greeting, derived from the Microsoft 365 shell on pages you already use and stored locally only.
-
App usage counts, used to work out your “most used” apps. These are mirrored into a
waffle_assist_top_appscookie on the Microsoft 365 site you’re using, so the Suite Bar can read them on that page. This cookie only stores the current top app IDs — never sign-in details, messages, files, page content, or usage counts — and you can clear it at any time from the Extension’s options page.
Microsoft 365 content itself remains in your Microsoft 365 tenant and is subject to your organization’s Microsoft policies; Waffle-Assist only reads what is needed to render the launcher surfaces described above.

Waffle-Assist does not sell user data and does not transfer it to third parties for advertising or unrelated purposes. Nothing the Extension stores leaves your browser.
